98% of YouTube Subscribers Don't Know You Just Published a New Video

August 16, 2024

Here's a wild stat pulled right from YouTube's Creator Studio:  Only 0.5% – 2.5% of YouTube subscribers who turn bell notifications on, are actually notified of new your new videos.

Think about all the work that creators put in to promote "turn notifications on" or "smash the bell" call-to-actions in videos, with audiences following along, only to have 98% of them NOT GET NOTIFIED!

A bummer on both sides of the coin.

Large social media platforms are great audience discovery tools, but as history shows us rules and algorithms change whenever the platform decides.

This is reminiscent of brands & creators building up Facebook pages by having subscribers "Liking" the page. The average post's organic reach to a "follower / fan" of a Facebook page used to be 15-20%. Today, organic reach for a Facebook post sits under 5%. Over the years, Facebook de-prioritized creators & media companies from the feed, leading to a near total wipeout of content reach, the companies themselves & their staff.
